Day of surgery, October 17, noonish.
We sat around in this pre-op holding room while Maybelle got ornery. Thus, the pre-operative pain relief to take the edge off. The super sweet anesthesiologist then took her with no big deal.
We waited around for the next four hours eating lunch, getting the new Hippo car seat installed (thanks Safety Squad), watching other people in the waiting room, and worrying.
Around 4:00, the surgeon talked to us. Everything went great. Her hip sockets are deeper than he thought, which is good news. Had to remove some tissue in the capsule, so it’s good we did the open reduction rather than the closed. This brought a great sense of relief.
Around 5:00 we got to see her in recovery, which is where I lost it. She was naked in a giant green cast and hooked up to all kinds of stuff. The nurses told me everything was OK and they gave me apple juice and ice packs.
Around 6:00 we had to get her MRI. Another ten minutes of being away from her, alone and locked in a sub-basement with a 3 ton magnet. I’m being dramatic, it was only ten minutes.
