Spica Cast Week 2
The cast has started to smell. We’ve investigated the opening around her behind a couple times now and removed some of the pee-soaked cottony stuffing and tape. We blow dry it and dab it with tea tree oil and apply layers of new medical tape, scented pantiliners, and Hello Kitty duct tape. So here’s the current diaper routine: We put a size 2 disposable diaper (with the sticky tabs ripped off) inside the opening. At night we double up with adult incontinence pads. You just stuff it in there as best you can. Then cover the whole thing with a size 5 or 6 diaper and hope for the best.
Friday was the follow up visit with the surgeon and everything is OK. The X-rays look good and he removed the tape over one part of her wound, which is healing well. It was not nearly as scary as I had imagined. Cast change is scheduled for four weeks away: Monday, November 28.
